Just yesterday I came across two very cute holiday printables for kids from a fellow blogger at Upside Down Homeschooling. The first is a Thanksgiving journal entitled My Book of Thanks: a 25 Day Gratitude Journal for Kids. You can choose either a Pre-K – 2nd grade version for younger kids or a 3rd-6th grade version for older kids. The second is a Christmas journal entitled, My Christmas Wish: a Devotional Prayer Journal for Kids. It’s designed for kids ages 4-12.

I purchased the Pre-k-2nd grade Thanksgiving journal and the Christmas journal yesterday, and my 4 and 5 year old have used and enjoyed the Thanksgiving journal for the past two days. There is a Bible verse or quote listed on every other day’s journal page for discussion. On the “off” days, we review the verse or quote from the previous day. It’s such a simple activity and it doesn’t take us long to complete, but I love it for several reasons:

It gives the kids a real reason to practice writing. (My four year old tells me what she wants to write. I write it for her on a separate piece of paper and she writes it in her journal on her own. It’s great copywork practice. My five year old is doing his independently.)
It is reminding us to think about all the things we have for which to be thankful for the whole month of November, and not just on Thanksgiving!
It will be a great keepsake that I can add to their saved work portfolio to look back on in years to come.
I only have to buy one electronic copy, but I can print it as many times as I need for my own personal use (one for each kid, can print another set next year if I want, etc.)
